Esther M. Persing, 87, of Northumberland, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2020, at Milton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Esther was born Aug. 27, 1932, in Northumberland, a daughter of the late CharIes E. Sr. and Annie M. (Bordner) Frehafer. On Jan. 5, 1951, she married James A. Persing Jr. who preceded her in death on Feb. 10, 2020.
Esther attended Northumberland High School.
Mrs. Persing was employed with L’Agilon Apparel, Northumberland, later known as David Knit, Inc. from where she retired.
She was a member of Truth and Restoration Church in Milton.
She enjoyed doing embroidery and word search puzzles, but her greatest joy came from cooking and baking.
Esther is survived by her son, David, of Northumberland; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Kathy and Jim Schleig of Sunbury, Linda of Atlanta, Ga., and Teresa and Vince Meisinger of Montandon; eight grandchildren, Gina Musser, James Schleig Jr., Lisa Lenig, Marie Reichard, Joe Tamanini, Scott Klobe, Matthew Klobe and Nathan Persing; 10 great-grandchildren, Dais, Tiffany, Maryssa, Kira, Stephani, Bethany, Bryce, Lillian, Liam and Benjamin; one great-great-grandson, Kole; and one sister, Shirley Hand, of Northumberland.
In addition to her husband of 69 years she was preceded in death by two sons, Matthew Persing and James Persing III; two brothers, Charles and Edwin Frehafer; and two sisters, Betty Frehafer and Anna Smith.
Friends and family may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at Christ Wesleyan Church, 363 Stamm Road, Milton, followed by a private funeral service with Pastor Mandy Rhodes officiating.
Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
