Northumberland - Betty J. Hetrick a former resident of Orange Street passed away February 26, 2019 at The Mansion for Nursing and Rehabilitation, Sunbury where she had been a resident.
Betty was born March 7, 1927 in Northumberland a daughter of the late Claire and Mary Graham. She was raised by Earl and Faye Graham. On September 1, 1951, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Northumberland she married Jack B. Hetrick who survives.
She was a 1944 graduate of Northumberland High School where she was active as a drum major and sang in the choir and chorus.
She then attended West Chester University studying music education.
Mrs Hetrick was employed at various local businesses and eventually stayed at home to raise her family.
She was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Northumberland where she was a Sunday School teacher, was active in the Lutheran Women and served as choir director for more than 20 years.
Music was Betty's greatest passion, she was a founding member and more than 25 year member of the Susquehanna Valley Chorale, As an avid gardener, she was a member of the Point Township Garden Club and also enjoyed sewing, knitting and jigsaw puzzles. She had a fondness for her dogs and cats and cherished her time spent with her family at their property by the Susquehanna River.
In addition to her husband of 67 years, Betty is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan B. and Terry E. Sheaffer of Sunbury, one son, Steven I. Hetrick of Selinsgrove and her step-granddaughter, Karen Poudrier and husband, Brian of Elon, NC.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Catherine Tidd.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 2:30 pm in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland with Pastor Dilip Abayasekara officiating.
Contributions in Betty's memory may be made to Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, 319 Catawissa Ave., Sunbury, PA 17801.
Her family would like to thank their "family" at The Mansion" for the wonderful care Betty received during her stay.
Arrangements are by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King Street, Northumberland.
