William C. Tanney Obituary

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of William “Bill” C. Tanney of Horvath Drive, Elysburg and formerly Mount Carmel.  On February 14, 2025.  Bill was born in Shamokin on July 23,1954.  He was the son of the late James and Clara (Beltz) Tanney. 

    He was a graduate of Mount Carmel Highschool in 1973. He played baseball and was on the cross country team.

   On July 24th, 1982, Bill married Cheryl Dubb at St. Joseph’s church in Mount Carmel by Rev. John Bambol. They celebrated their 42nd anniversary in July.

   He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Lucky 15 club and belonged to St. Peters church and St. Joseph’s church where he was an usher.

   He worked for Maurer’s Dairy, the Northumberland County Courthouse and Northumberland County Human Resources for 32 years where he then retired from.

   Bill coached football for the Mount Carmel Jets, softball and baseball for Maurer’s Dairy for many years.

   Bill enjoyed painting ceramics, gardening, music and watching all sports especially his favorite football team the Philadelphia Eagles but most importantly he loved spending time with his family.

   His uplifting personality brought so much joy to others and lightened every room he entered. He enjoyed making others smile and laugh with his endless jokes and one of a kind humor. He made friends easily everywhere he went with his kind and caring personality.

    Bill is survived by his wife Cheryl Tanney; Four daughters, Tara Tanney and significant other, Devin, Melissa Tanney and significant other, Andrew, Brianna Tanney and significant other, Dylan, and Kayla Tanney.

   Seven grandchildren; Carson, Alianna, Brycen, Jayce, Avery, Alexander (A.J) and Zachary. A special nephew, Edward Tanney Jr. “Rocky”, As well as many nieces,nephews, cousins and friends.

    Bill is preceded in death by his parents James and Clara Tanney; Grandparents; Father-in-Law Joseph Dubb Mother-in-Law Josephine Griscavage; One brother Edward Tanney and Sister-in-Law Catherine Tanney.  An uncle Edward Tanney and an Aunt Helen Lesko.

    A special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff at Davita Dialysis located in Mount Carmel/ Coal Township for the excellent care they gave Bill throughout the years.

   May he rest in peace, his love will forever remain a guiding light in our lives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 17, at 11:00am at the Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 599 W. Center Street, Elysburg.
