William "Bill" Hoey, 77, of Northumberland, passed away on Monday, July 20.

Bill was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was the son of the late Frank and Lucille Hoey. His father, Frank, was originally from Sunbury, Pennsylvania.

Bill attended South Dakota State University, where he majored in journalism. During college, he interned with the *Argus Leader* before accepting a position as a reporter and photographer. He also worked for the Associated Press.

Following the death of his mother, Bill's father returned to Sunbury. A few years later, Bill relocated to Pennsylvania to be closer to him.

Bill became a life member of the Americus Hose Company, where he served as a firefighter, ambulance driver, and past president. He was also a stringer for *The Daily Item*. Later, he worked for the Sunbury Municipal Authority, where he remained until his retirement.

A soccer coach for more than 30 years, Bill shared his love of the game with countless young athletes through AYSO, North CenPenn, and Shikellamy soccer programs. He served as head coach at Shikellamy for one season and continued as a volunteer coach for many years. Coach Hoey, genuinely enjoyed working with the boys and took great pride in their success.

Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen (Kohl) Hoey of Northumberland; his stepdaughter, Kayleen (Rohrer) Snyder and her husband, Rex, of Sunbury; his son, Matt Hoey and his wife, Melissa, of Fullerton, California; and four grandchildren: Jackson Snyder and his wife, Tori; Rachel Brosious and her husband, Kaleb; Brooke Snyder and her fiancé, Josh Shaffer; and Luke Snyder, all of the Sunbury area.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Refuge in Sunbury, Child Evangelism Fellowship of Northumberland or the Shikellamy soccer program.

A memorial service will be held August 22 from 3:00-4:00pm at Sunbury Bible Church, 135 Spruce Hollow Road, Northumberland, followed by the service at 4:00pm.
