Shirley Lucille Lytle

November 27, 1927 ~ October 4, 2020 (age 92)


Shirley Lucille Lytle, 92, of Northumberland, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 4, 2020.

She was born Nov. 27, 1927, to the late Lydia (Musselman) Smith and Ralph Smith.

Shirley attended Sunbury High School and graduated from Empire Beauty School. She married Eugene Lytle Sr. in 1946 and they had one son, Eugene Lytle Jr. After the loss of her first husband, she was married again in 1984 to William White. She spent many years working for Champ Hats in Sunbury. Following years in the workforce, she opened and operated her own beauty salon from her home on Elliot Drive in Northumberland.

Shirl enjoyed traveling, and most importantly, spending time with her family. She was especially fortunate to have her grandson, Matt, to lovingly provide care in order to keep her home for the last two years of her life.

Shirley is survived by her grandchildren, Matthew Lytle of Northumberland, Sherry Petta and husband Ryan, of Sacramento, Tara Davies and husband Robert, of Danville, Justin Carr and wife Heather, and Scott Carr, all of Selinsgrove; her great-grandchildren, Ahlena, Ian and Chloe Davies, Elise and Gavin Petta, and Abbigail and Deklen Carr. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Tina Carr and husband Jeffry of Selinsgrove; and one brother, Richard Smith and wife Louise of Sunbury; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, spouses, and son, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Ada Heller, Ruth Rubendall, Minnie Lytle and Gladys Boyer; and brothers, Robert and Kenneth Smith and Marion Spenkle.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

A private service will be held on Oct. 8. 

Burial will immediately follow in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
