Shirley J. Lewis Snyder, 78, a resident of Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, passed away peacefully with her daughter, grandaughter, sister, and brother-in-law at her bedside on Wednesday, April 27, 2016, in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Shirley was born Aug. 17, 1937, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Leroy and Geraldine (Hendricks) Sheesley. In 2005 she married Marlin “Sonny” Snyder, who preceded her in death in 2011.
She attended Milton High School.
Shirley was a nursing assistant at Grandview Nursing Home and later worked for various retail businesses in Danville.
She was a long time member of Trinity Methodist Church in Danville.
She enjoyed singing, word searches, yard sales, shopping and watching Monday night wrestling.
She is survived by and was a wonderful mother and grandmother to one daughter, Kathy Lewis Botts, of Mifflinburg; two grandchildren, Kristy L. Botts and companion Tony L. Bingaman II, Dustin E. Botts and companion Megan N. Beck, all of Mifflinburg; one great-granddaughter, Cora Madelyn Bingaman, who’s weekly visits she truly enjoyed; one sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Ed Snyder, of Northumberland; two brothers, Robert Sheesley, of Northumberland, and David Sheesley, of Shamokin; one son-in-law, Rick E. Botts, of Mifflinburg; and numerous nieces and nephews to whom she was like an adoptive mother.
She was preceded in death by her former husband, Walter “Bud” Lewis; and two brothers, Larry and Donald Sheesley.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 300 Queen Street, Northumberland, with the Rev. Pat Pittsnogle officiating.
