Shirley Mae (Bucher) Hummel, 79, passed away Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, surrounded by loved ones and members of her amazing care team.
Born Sept. 1, 1945, in Sunbury, to Huston and Ruth Bucher, she married Richard L. Hummel on Dec. 10, 1965, celebrating nearly 59 years of marriage.
A graduate of Sunbury High School in 1963, Shirley began her career at First National Bank in bookkeeping. Her professional life included positions at Montgomery Ward and later working in payroll and tax preparation for Fessler Accounting and Amanda Aurand Accounting.
Her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother. Shirley also enjoyed watching her favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies, cooking for her family, playing Bingo, listening to oldies music, and traveling, especially to Ocean City, Md.
She is survived by her husband, Richard; son, Jeffrey H. Hummel and wife Angela; daughter, Natalie Mowrey and husband Thomas; grandchildren, Courtney Hummel Toomey and husband Evan, Zachary Hummel, Jacob Mowrey, and Thomas Benjamin Mowrey; and sister, Beverly Harro of Selinsgrove.
Funeral arrangements are at the discretion of the family.
The family is being assisted by Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home and Christ Wesleyan Church.
