Shirley Mae Blyler, 83, of Northumberland, PA, passed away on March 8, 2020, at her home.
Born in Catawissa, PA on January 24, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Mae Zimmerman-Yeager and was preceded in death by one brother, Robert L. Yeager.
Shirley graduated from Catawissa High School in 1954. After graduation she worked at Charles D. Hamlin Insurance. She married Robert Blyler on December 29,1956, and followed him to Pensacola Florida for Navy Marine aircraft training. She had the honor of pinning on his wings after his graduation. In 1958, they were transferred to a Marine helicopter base in Santa Ana, CA. After his service, she returned to her hometown area and settled in Northumberland. She worked for George Moyer Carpets, Montgomery Wards, and the majority of her career was spent as an Administrative Assistant at the Central Susquehanna Intermediate Unit, CSIU #16, in Montandon.
An active member of the First Reformed Church of United Church of Christ in Sunbury, Shirley was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir and bell choir for many years. The members always enjoyed her pies, cakes, and mint chocolate brownies.
Traveling was a favorite; she traveled to all 50 states, Canada, Mexico, England, Scotland, and Wales. Shirley loved spending time in Florida in January and February. Hobbies included softball, golfing, bowling, cards, shuffleboard, bird watching and supporting her grandsons at their sporting events.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert P. Blyler, her son, Robert L. Blyler of Waverly, NY and her daughter and son-in-law, Wendy and Dave Fadale of Selinsgrove. She is also survived by her grandsons, Vince and Ethan Fadale.
Friends may attend the visitation on Saturday, March 14, from 10:30-11:30 AM at the First Reformed Church of United Church of Christ, 160 Chestnut Street, Sunbury, PA 17801 with a service to follow at 11:30 AM. Private interment will be at a later date in Elan Cemetery, Bloomsburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in honor of Shirley may be made to the First Reformed Church of United Church of Christ.
