Sandra K. Pensyl Obituary

Elysburg — Sandra (Sandy) K. Pensyl, 78, of Catman Hollow Rd., returned peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Geisinger-Shamokin Hospital.

She was born in Tharptown on January 28, 1946, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Bowman) Culp and step-father Edward Shaffer.

Sandy was a resident of Shamokin until 1983, when she moved to Elysburg.

Sandy was first married in 1964 to Edward R. Shurock. After her divorce she later married Allen B. Pensyl in 1979.

She worked for the Social Security Administration as a Claims Representative until her retirement in 1997. Sandy was a serious book worm, she loved to read whenever she had a spare moment. She was a breast cancer survivor who volunteered her time to raise awareness in her community and also served on Elsyburg’s All Home Day’s committee. Her favorite pastime and a family tradition, was shopping on the weekends with her mom, sister, daughter and grandchildren, hunting for the best sales and enjoying some ice cream or a burger afterwards. During the summer months Sandy spent many weekends at the family cottage, laughing, relaxing and enjoying the company of friends and family. The light of her life were her grandchildren who visited “grammy’s house on the farm” every weekend during their childhood. And recently her great-grandchild Hayden, who brought her so much joy over the past 1 ½ years.

She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Paxinos.

She is survived by her husband, Allen B. Pensyl, of Elysburg, her daughter Lisa (Shurock) Sienkiewicz, of Chiapas, Mexico, step-daughter, Tammy (Pensyl) Moran and her husband, Jim, of Paxinos and step-son, Skip Pensyl and wife Karmen of Lillian, AL; three grandchildren, Brianna Sienkiewicz of Lancaster, PA, Eric Sienkiewicz of Lancaster, PA and Shane Moran of Paxinos; a great-grandson, Hayden E. Sienkiewicz Deliard of Lancaster, PA; and a nephew, Howard Hetzendorf of Trevorton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Faye Hetzendorf.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 1 pm Wednesday, October 16th, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 1 pm at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Paxinos (739 Airport Rd, Paxinos, PA 17860) with Pastor Paul Gurba officiating. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, Elysburg. Flowers are welcome. Contributions can be made to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, Paxinos.
