Obituary

NORTHUMBERLAND — Ruth O. Geise, 85, of Geise Road, passed away Monday. Oct. 13, 2014, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland, where she was a guest.

Ruth was born Dec. 22, 1928, in Rockville, a daughter of the late George and Alva (Rhoads) Orth. On Nov. 4, 1950, she married Ira A. Geise who preceded her in death on Oct. 30, 1992.

She was a 1946 graduate of Susquehanna Township High School and later in life graduated from the Central Penn Christian Training Institute in Sunbury.

Ruth began her working career as a secretary for an insurance adjuster in the Harrisburg area and for many years she was a secretary for the Furman Canning Co. She eventually retired as the secretary/treasurer for Point Township.

She was a member of Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, Sunbury and a former Sunday school teacher and youth group leader at Trinity Lutheran Church, Northumberland.

Ruth was very active as a 4-H Club leader and was a member of the Pomona Grange and leader in the Junior Grange. She served on the committee of the Good News Club, Inc., of Northumberland County as well as serving as treasurer. Following retirement, Ruth was an active volunteer with the Child Evangelism Fellowship.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Philip P. and Karen L. Geise, of Northumberland, Samuel A. and Dora Mae Geise, of Troxelville, and Mark D. and Patti W. Geise, of Northumberland; one daughter, Rebecca E. Geise, of Northumberland; three grandchildren, Daniel R., Lydia M. and Brittney J.S. Geise; three great-grandchildren, Adrianna Noel and Aaliyah Julianna Shadle and Hailey Catalina Kurtz.

In addition to her husband of 41 years, Ruth was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Kenneth and Earl Orth.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Bible Fellowship Church, 967 Mile Hill Road, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11 with the Rev. Charles Cole officiating.

Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
