Janet Geise Obituary - 1-11 -2015

Ruth Janet Haupt Geise, 117 Ridgway Northumberland, Pa 17857. Died Sunday January 11, 2015, Born in Sunbury, Pa. February 2, 1925. Daughter of Howard E and Joanna Lawrence Haupt. Janet graduated from Sunbury High School 1943. During the second world war she was employed at the New Cumberland Army Services Forces Depot. She then worked in the law offices of Whitmer and Rice.

November 1946 Janet married Robert Geise. They resided in Turbotville, Pa. for a year before moving to Oceanside, LI NY where her husband taught at South Side High School, Rockville Center, LI NY.

Janet was a volunteer at South Nassau Communities Hospital, Oceanside LI NY for 22 years and also volunteered with the Helen Keller Services for the blind. She was part-time employee in the Rockville Center, LI NY. public schools.

A member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the order of the Amaranth, Chapter 127 Sunbury. She lived in Honolulu, Hawaii for a year while husband Bob was on an East-West Center fellowship at the University of Hawaii.

Janet and her husband returned to central Pennsylvania in 1988. For Many years they delivered Meals-on-Wheels in the Selinsgrove area, and Janet was also a screening volunteer with Central Susquehanna Sight Services. She was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, Sunbury where she assisted with infant classes.

Family was important to Janet and she regretted they were scattered.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, 2 daughters, Joanna Fringer of Raleigh, NC, Dr. Cindy Arroyo and husband Ron of Oceanside, LI NY, 2 granddaughters Jennifer and husband Chris Pittman, Jessica Litwack of Oceanside, LI NY, 2 great granddaughters Sophie and Teah Pittman of Raleigh, NC.

Janet was 1 of 5 sisters, surviving are Frances Smith of Northumberland, PA, Joanna Marilyn Click of Searcy, AK, Suzanne Funke of Phoenix, AZ, 1 sister Phyllis Bastress preceded her in death.

Friends may call at David T Zweier Funeral Home, Inc., 157 Chestnut Street Sunbury, PA Saturday January 17, 2015 from 1:00 to 1:55 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Jonathan P Albright , former Pastor of First Reformed United Church of Christ will officiate.
