On Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, while at home with son, Terry by his side, our family patriarch, Roy W. Lenig, 96, of Northumberland, passed away peacefully.
He was born April 16, 1927, in Port Trevorton, to the late Mary L. Longacre and Robert Lenig. Roy started his education at Otts School House, a one room school house in Selinsgrove. He was drafted his senior year of high school. A veteran of World War II, Roy served in the Army and was stationed in Italy until 1946.
On June 19, 1948, he married the late Betty M. Gottshall of Sunbury. Roy's first job was at the Lime Quarry in Selinsgrove, owned by his grandfather, Silas Campbell. Anyone who met Roy liked him instantly. He was a very honest and friendly man who worked as a car salesman his entire career, starting at Fegley Motors to AC Boyer to Zimmerman Dodge and then Alexander's in Sunbury where he retired from June 20, 2002. Roy received an honorary diploma from Selinsgrove School District.
Roy was a member of the Sunbury Fire Police, life member of Friendship Hose Company, Sunbury, VFW and member of Sunbury Eagles. An avid sports fan, Roy enjoyed watching the Phillies the entire season. When he could, in the fall, he could be found at his hunting cabin with family and in the spring along a stream fishing for trout. A great storyteller, he was able to make you laugh and blush at the same time. He will be truly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Gary L. Lenig; grandson, Russell A. Lenig; sisters, Goldie Buch and Eleanor Strouse; and brother, Robert Lenig.
Roy is survived by his sons, Roy S. and Wanda Lenig, Titusville, Fla., Terry A. Lenig and life partner Diana Saunder, Danville, Pa., Christopher and Terri Madden, Malvern, Pa.; his grandchildren, Michael S. and Jamie Lenig, Lockport, NY, Tammy and Heath "Mac" MacWhinnie, Columbia Crossroads, Pa., Debra C. and Mark N. Webb, Sunbury, Aimee and Lillo Naimo, Sunbury, Brad E. and Lisa Lenig, Williamsport, Pa., Jennifer and Josh Grubb, Malvern, Christopher Madden, Matthew and Joanna Shively, Sunbury and Jack Shively, Melisa and William "Billy" Richards II, Titusville, Fla., and Travis, Logan, and Madden, Malvern; great-grandchildren, Tristen, Jacob, Connor, and Chase Lenig, Lilly MacWhinnie, Sarah, Alyssa and Colin MacWhinnie, Emily E. Webb, Hunter Raker and Lorenzo Naimo, Kira Matos, Bryce Lenig; and great-great-grandchildren, Addilyn and William "Willie".
