NORTHUMBERLAND — Robert J. Price Sr., 82, of Penn Street, passed away peacefully early Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born in Luzerne in 1932, a son of the late James R. and Evelyn Price. On Oct. 23, 1952, he married the former JoAnn M. Troup, who preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2002.On April 27, 2011, he married Shirley A. Martin-Aungst, who survives.
Bob was a 1950 graduate of Northumberland High School.
He then served in the U.S. Army 82 Airborne during the Korean War as both paratrooper and sports reporter.
After his military service, he had a wide variety of jobs before becoming an agent for State Farm Insurance.
He enjoyed serving his customers for more than 50 years. At the time of his death, he had not yet retired and was still serving those customers. . .many the grandchildren of his original clients.
He was a former member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Northumberland and currently attended the First Reformed United Church of Christ, Sunbury.
Bob was an avid golfer; he enjoyed many outdoor activities, among them skiiing, kayaking, snow tubing and others too numerous to mention.
He loved to play cards and was a lifelong Penn State football and Philadelphia Eagles fan. He was a world traveler, now legend in Alaska, and a military history buff.
His summer picnics were an event of epic proportion, enjoyed by all. His roasted corn will be sorely missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter-in-law, Denise Price, of Northumberland; two grandchildren, Trey Robert Price and wife Jennifer C. Price, of Denver , Colo. and Casey L. Price, of Northumberland; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Natalie and Oliver Eichner, of Ledyard, Conn. and Diane and Tom Hanan, of Adams, N.Y.; stepchildren, Kim Pires and husband Wade, and Frank Aungst II and wife Cathy; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; and lastly, his loyal employees, Tina and Denise Billow, both working alongside him for the last 20 years.
He was preceded in death by one son, Robert James Price Jr. on April 3, 2003, and one granddaughter, Tasha Nicole Price on April 14, 1997.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, at the First Reformed United Church of Christ, 160 Chestnut St., Sunbury, with the Rev. Michael W. Beynon officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 44, Northumberland.
A reception will follow the memorial service at the church.
