Sunbury - Richard A. "Dick" Willard, 86 of N. Fourth Street, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at the Mansion Nursing and Rehabilitation.
He was born February 3, 1934 in Sunbury a son of the late Lester O. and Cecelia (Sprenkle) Willard. On June 19, 1955 he married the former Norma E. Delbaugh who survives.
Dick was a proud Sunbury Owl. He graduated with the Class of 1953 where he and Norma were crowned King and Queen of their Senior Prom.
He enlisted with Army in December of 1954, serving during the Korean War and played football while in Germany until his honorable discharge in December of 1956.
Mr. Willard was employed as a brakeman with the Pennsylvania Railroad, later known as Penn Central and eventually Conrail from where he retired after 41 years of service.
He was a member of St. Elias Church, Sunbury.
Dick was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed the outdoors including hunting and camping and time spent on his son's farm. He was an all around handyman who had a knack for fixing anything.
As a loving husband, father and grandfather, Dick is survived by his wife of 65 years, Norma, two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steve A. and Candace A. Willard of Paxinos, Scott E. Willard of Sunbury, one daughter and her wife, Jenifer A. and Karen Willard-Miller of Sunbury, three granddaughters, Katie, Lauren and Mya, four great-grandchildren, Lila, Emily, Lucy and Mason and his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by, two brothers, Lester and Robert Willard and three sisters, Effie Herman, Delores Eister and Gloria Stebbins.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of Dick's family.
