Richard L. Kitchen, Sr.

November 20, 1939 ~ September 12, 2020 (age 80)


Northumberland – Richard L. Kitchen Sr., 80, Point Twp. Drive, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg. 

Richard was born November 20, 1939 in Bloomsburg a son of the late Wilmer and Lois (Styer) Kitchen. 

He graduated from Bloomsburg high school and later Bloomsburg University where he earned his Bachelors Degree in teaching.  He was a Biology Teacher and wrestling coach for several years prior to getting in to the auto sales business, and eventually opening his own business.  He later started working as a courier for Geisinger Medical Center, Danville until his retirement.

Richard was  a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Point Twp., where he served on the Church Council.  He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club where he served as member and President, Point Township Zoning -Hearing Board, PA Independent Deal’s Association, Central Susquehanna Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Shikellamy School Board where he served as member and President.

In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling and camping.

Richard is survived by his domestic partner Ruth A. Forbes, three sons and one daughter-in-law Richard L. and Barb Kitchen of Northumberland, Paul J. Kitchen of Northumberland and John D. Kitchen of Delaware, two daughters and one son-in-law Joann D. Kitchen of Delaware and Tricia A. and Timothy Hollenbach of Middleburg, grandchildren Joseph Kitchen, Elisha Zimmerman and Kelsey Hollenbach, three sisters Wilma Steinruck of Bloomsburg, Vonda Mensch of MD, and Roxann Tucker of Red Hill, and several nieces and nephews. 

A graveside service with Rev. Steven Middernacht officiating will be held in Elan Memorial Park, 5595 Old Berwick Rd, Bloomsburg 17815, Friday at 1:00pm.

Contributions in Richards memory may be made to his church, Grace Lutheran Church, 2190 Point Township Drive, Northumberland  17857.

Arrangements are by the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King Street, Northumberland.
