Marcella B. (Long) Specht, 96, of Northumberland entered eternal rest with the Lord on Wednesday, November 9, 2023. Marcella was born on July 11, 1927, the daughter of Clair W. and Bertha (Tietsworth) Long, in Elysburg, PA. She attended and graduated from the Elysburg Schools. Marcella was married for 51 years to her Husband, H. James (Jim) Specht who preceded her in passing to the Lord in 2002.
Marcella enjoyed bowling for many years at the Northumberland American Legion Post 44, she had many travels with her husband after his retirement. Marcella was an avid sports fan with her husband for the Phillies always watching games on TV and they attended home Penn State football games with season tickets for thirty plus years. After her husband’s passing, she spent time with her friend Marjorie Wise going on short local bus trips (and driving themselves at 80+ years of age) to the beaches in New Jersey. She lived in her home on 3rd Street in Northumberland until the past few months when her health began to fail. She was able to maintain her home with the love and support of her children, close neighbors, and friends, Peggy, Mary, Betty, and many others who spent time visiting and assisting.
After Marcella’s high school graduation, she had her first job in Northumberland where her parents moved, working at Brights restaurant. She also worked for Bell Telephone, Champ Hats and Rea & Derick Drug Store as a front desk receptionist at the central office in Northumberland. She loved her children and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sitting in her backyard viewing her roses and flowers and anyone who stopped in for a visit.
Surviving is a; son, James C., (spouse Terry) Specht; daughter, Suzanne M., (spouse James) Crouser; son Jeffrey N., (spouse Kathy) Specht; five grandchildren; Laura, (spouse Clayton) Wheeler, Hilary Crouser, Robert Crouser, Craig (spouse Brittany) Specht, and George (spouse Amanda) Specht; 4 great grandchildren; 5 grand dogs; and a loving younger brother, Lowell Long of Texas. She had many nieces and nephews (of the Specht and Long families) who she enjoyed spending time with. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Millard and Nevin Long, a sister Evelyn Johnson.
There will be a private graveside service for the immediate family, with a celebration of life held at a later date. The burial will be next to her husband in the Riverview cemetery, Northumberland. Memorial contributions may be made in Marcella’s memory to Mostly Mutts or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
