Lorraine E. Filer, 89, of Fourth Street, Sunbury, passed away on Friday, Jan. 17, 2020, in ManorCare, Sunbury.
She was born Nov. 28, 1930, in Altoona, a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (McLaughlin) Socey. On Nov. 25, 1948, she married Daniel H. Filer who preceded her in death in 2004.
Lorraine was a graduate of Altoona High School.
She began her career for the federal government working as a secretary at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and later transferred to the Federal Penitentiary and Parole Board System where she worked for various facilites, retiring in 1975 from the Lewisburg Penitentiary.
She attended Brookside Ministries and was a dedicated member and served as trustee for the Sunbury Senior Action Center.
Lorraine enjoyed bowling and bingo but her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Thomas and Tonya Filer of Dunedin, Fla.; two daughters, Cheryl Rearden and Lynn Bellve, both of Sunbury; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Frederick Filer and one in infancy; one daughter, Jill Santucci; and one sister, Jacqueline Frank.
Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, at the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Jerry Helman officiating.
Interment will follow in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Sunbury.
