Kay Plempel Obituary

Paxinos - Kay E. (Dockey) Plempel, 80, who was born December 17, 1942 at the Sunbury Community General Hospital, died at her home on April 15, 2023 with her family by her side.

Kay graduated from Sunbury High School in 1960 and the Harrisburg Hospital School of Nursing in 1963.  She dedicated her life to service of others through her work at Sunbury Community General Hospital, Mountain View Nursing Home, Geisinger Medical Center. Polyclinic and retired from her nursing career at Harrisburg Hospital.

Kay was active at her church and spent many years volunteering with the Ladies Aide Ministry and teaching Sunday School.

She enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing and hummingbirds. Although she tried to teach them - her daughters have never been able to master her flaky pie crust.

Kay is survived by her husband, Lee, they were married for 56 years. Her daughters, Cyndi K. and Colin Dubois, Patty A. Plempel and Scot Carabini, her favorite daughter, Judy L. and James Stewart, grandchildren, Coty (Briele Hilliard), Gabe (Tiffany Auman), Nate (Kyrah Bigles), Cassandra (Carter Durnell), Cassity and Cameron (Aryn Cutsail), sisters, Shirley Funk, Ann M. and Michael Brezgel, Mary A. and Ed Neumayer as well as many nieces and nephews.

Kay was preceded in death by her daughter, Janelle, stillborn, her parents, her parents, Catherine M. (Long) and Adam Dockey, brothers, Larry, David Lee and sister, Diane J. Hummel.

Mrs. Plempel was given great care by her primary caregiver, Ashley Toman, who she loved dearly and Geisinger at Home and Geisinger Hospice

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19th at Mountain Presbyterian Church. Visitors may call from 9:30am to 11:00am. The funeral will be conducted at 11:00am by Bob Reich, Pastor Emeritus, Mountain Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Presbyterian Church, 2478 Boyles Run Road, P.O. Box 169 Sunbury, PA 17801.
