Kathryn Wolfe Lyter, 90, of York, and formally of 520 Priestley Ave., Northumberland, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, while a resident of “The Haven at Springwood” Assisted Living facility, York.
Born on the family farm outside of Herndon on Jan. 23, 1930, Kathryn was the daughter of Margaret (Burrell) Wolfe and William Harlan (Yocum) Wolfe of Herndon. After graduating from Herndon High School and working at Westinghouse in Sunbury, she met and married Walter J. Lyter on Jan. 11, 1955. They raised their only child, Jay W. Lyter, in Northumberland where they lived for most of their lives.
Kathryn was a wonderful traditional “Pennsylvania Dutch” cook and homemaker and loved rollerskating and auto racing, NASCAR, and dirt track racing at Selinsgrove Speedway.
Kathryn is survived by her son, Jay (Jane) Lyter of York; two grandchildren, Andrew (Tori) Lyter of Lewes, Delaware, and Michael (Erika) Lyter of York. Additionally, she was a proud great-grandmother.
A private family burial will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, in the Riverview Cemetery in Northumberland.
The family wishes to thank the staff of “The Haven at Springwood”, York, and “Caring Hospice Services” of Lancaster, for her end of life care.
