Joseph H. Stender Sr., 82, of Ridge Road, Northumberland, passed away Friday, May 17, 2024, in his home.
Mr. Stender was born June 4, 1941, a son of the late Albert K. and Elizabeth (Holoua) Stender. He was married to Mary M. (Bordan) Stender who preceded him in death. He was a descendant of world-famous surfer A'a Holoua.
He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Sunbury. Mr. Stender was employed as an assistant superintendent for Mohawk Doors for over 40 years prior to his retirement.
He was also co-owner of America's Recycling Center in Sunbury since 1983. After his retirement from Mohawk Doors, he became a Point Township Supervisor.
Mr. Stender was a very active member of his community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Americus Hose Company, Selinsgrove Moose, the Point Township Fire Company and the Continental Fire Company.
He is survived by his sons, Michael A.K. Stender (Brenda Jones), Joseph H. Stender Jr. (Judy Allen); grandchildren, Jill D. Snyder (Toby), Leilani Burley (Jason), Michael A.K. Stender Jr. (Shannon), Rebecca I.K. Stender (William Gelbaugh) Joseph H. Stender III (Rimanda); great-grandchildren, Kaiulani, Roslyn, Willow, Murray, Mara, Mayka, Nora, Madilyn, Benjamin, Rebecca, Abraham, Penelope, Amelia, Camden; and his dog, Dozer.
He was the last of seven children.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, May 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury. Guests are encouraged to wear Hawaiian attire.
Interment will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, in All Saints Cemetery, 172 All Saints Road, Elysburg.
