Sunbury - Joseph E. Scott Jr., 86, of Cold Run Hollow Road, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2025, in Evangelical Hospital, Lewisburg.  

 

Joseph was born May 14, 1939, in Sunbury a son of the late Joseph E. and Ruth (Wagner) Scott.  On June 9, 1962, he married Cheryl (Salter) Scott who survives. He was a Christian and loved the Lord! 

 

He was a 1958 graduate of Shikellamy High School, he then obtained his Associate's degree from Penn Tech. in Williamsport.

 

Joseph proudly served in the United States Army from January 30, 1962 until January 29, 1968.

 

He was a professional racecar driver and in 1980 he was the Superstock World Champion.  He was inducted into the NHRA Hall of Fame in 2021.  

 

Joseph was a member of the Sunbury VFW and the American Legion and the Keystone Knife Association in Lewisburg.  

 

He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed collecting knives and cars, but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his wife going to flea markets, traveling, going to car shows and spending time with his best buddy Dalton. His grandchildren were the joy of his life and spending time with them brought him great joy! 

 

Joseph is survived by his daughters Tina Hollister (Chuck) and Marie Hurley (Will), grandchildren Dalton, Chloe, John-Mark, Arowyn, Jeremiah and Avagail, his sisters Sharon Klinger, Thelma Wagner (Stan), and Wendy Hanes (Tom) and several nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his brothers George and Stanley Scott.

 

A viewing will be held Wednesday from 10:00am-noon at the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State Street, Sunbury, where the funeral service will follow at noon.

 

Interment will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
