John E. Raker, 92, Sunbury, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Oak Glen Healthcare & Rehabilitation.
John was born Oct. 13, 1932 at home in Sunbury a son of the late Lloyd R. and Flossie H. (Brosious) Raker. On Oct. 14, 1950, he married the former Cottie E. Lahr who preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 2016.
Mr. Raker attended Mile Run School. He was a farmer who worked the family farm. He also took great pride in tending his yearly vegetable garden.
John was a faithful member of St. Elias Reformed Church, Sunbury.
He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-laws, Dean and Cindy Raker of Sunbury, Gary and Debra Raker of New Columbia, Roger and Shari Raker of Va., Rodney and Angela Raker of Sunbury; one daughter and son-in-law, Candy and David Anderson of Fla.; fifteen grandchildren, his many great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild on the way, one brother and sister-in-law, Martin and Mollie Raker of Sunbury.
In addition to his parents and wife of 65 years, John was preceded in death by his eleven siblings and baby girl Raker who passed away at birth.
John is remembered as a hard-working man who inspired his children and grandchildren with his integrity and work ethic.
A viewing will be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Elias Reformed Church, Sunbury, followed by the funeral services at 11 with Rev. Clair F. Shaffer officiating.
Burial will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.
