Northumberland – John R. Deitrich, 82 passed away Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
John was born January 17, 1936 in Sunbury a son of the late Ray E. and Ida M. (Womer) Deitrich. On June 4, 1961 he married the former Sandra L. Berie who survives.
Mr. Deitrich attended Sunbury High School. He served in the Army National Guard from January 11, 1955 until January 18, 1956. John then enlisted in the Air Force on January 19, 1956 and was honorably discharged on February 26, 1959 and continued to serve in the reserves until January 7, 1963.
Early on John was employed with various local businesses. He then gained employment with Butter-Krust Baking Co., Sunbury where he retired after more than 20 years of service. Following retirement he drove school bus for the Selinsgrove School District for several years.
John was life member and former active volunteer for the Point Township Fire Company.
In addition to his wife of 56 years John is survived by four daughters and three sons-in-law, Lois S. and Robert W. Aucker of Northumberland, Tammy S. and Tom R. Webb, Jr. of Sunbury, April M. Witmer of Sunbury, Bridgette L. and James R. Mull, Sr. of Sunbury, one son, James D. Deitrich of Northumberland, 17 grandchildren; Jason, Jaclyn, Joshua, Susan, Nicole, Kayla, Cassandra, Alyssa, Tionie, Nicholas, Ryan, Hope, James Jr., Nathanial, Andrew, Matthew and Elizabeth, 12 great-grandchildren, four sisters and one brother-in-law, Marian Fahringer of Northumberland, Carol Deitrich of San Francisco, CA, Jane and Paul Bower of Shamokin Dam and Paula Nations of San Antonio, TX.
Friends and family may call from 6:00pm to 8:oopm at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King Street, Northumberland where funeral services will begin at 2:00pm Thursday with Rev. Michelle Beissel officiating
Burial with military honors accorded by the Selinsgrove American Legion Victory Post 25 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6631 will follow in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
