Sunbury – James R. Herman, 69 of Lenker Ave. passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at UPMC Susquehanna, Sunbury.
Jim was born December 14, 1949 in Sunbury a son of the late Benson Ray and Catherine M. (Metzger) Herman.
He attended Shikellamy High School. He was employed for more than 30 years by Wilhold, Inc., Sunbury, he retired from Ott Packaging, Selinsgrove. Following retirement Jim worked part-time as a custodian for the Shikellamy School District.
Mr. Herman was a life member of the Friendship Hose Company, a member of the American Legion Post #201, Sunbury and enjoyed playing poker with his friends from the East End Hose Co.
Jim enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, New York Yankees and Penn State Nittany Lions. He enjoyed passing time by watching his favorite TV programs; Walker, Texas Ranger and the Golden Girls.
He was known as the “Candy Man” often giving candy to his nieces and nephews and many children and to his many friends as “Rabbi”.
In addition to his many friends Jim is survived by, one sister, June M. Sarfine, three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Bob J. and Charlotte A. Herman, John L. Herman, Terry L. and Connie L. Herman all of Sunbury, his nieces and nephews, Cathy Foreman, Steven Kerstetter, Julie Campbell, Robert Herman, Jr., John Herman, Jr., Jody Miller, Jason Herman and his many great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by, his brother, Bill A. Herman and his sister-in-law, Bonnie G. Herman.
Friends and family may call from 10:00am to noon, Monday at the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut Street, Sunbury followed by the funeral service at noon with Pastor Lynn Schmoyer officiating.
Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery.
