Northumberland – Jack Butler Hetrick, 93, formerly of Orange Street, went home to be with his Lord, Sunday, February 2, 2020 at The Mansion in Sunbury.
Jack was born September 1, 1926 in Northumberland a son of the late Irvin and Florence (Butler) Hetrick. September 1, 1951 he married the former Betty Jane Graham who preceded him in death on February 26, 2019.
He was a 1945 graduate of Northumberland High School where he held the seat of Class President for many years. In 1996 he was awarded the Northumberland Alumni of the year award. He was a proud Pineknotter.
Jack served in the Army during World War II, stationed in Aberdean, MD.
He was employed as a lineman for PPL, Sunbury, later in Northumberland for 37 years prior to his retirement.
He was a member of the Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church in Sunbury. Previously, he attended St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northumberland, where he served as Sunday School teacher for many years and also served as a council member for the church.
Jack was a former member of the Northumberland Borough Council and volunteered with Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland for 10 years.
Mr. Hetrick served as First Mate to Skipper, Harold “Skeet” McCreary with the Sea Scouts. The troop took educational trips to the Chesapeake Bay, spent time on the river House Boat and held many Regattas..
Jack enjoyed boating at Raystown, traveling including; many cruises, a trip to Switzerland and 3 weeks spent in the Midwest. He also loved to spend time at his property along the river at Redman Acres.
Mr. Hetrick is survived by one son Steven I. Hetrick of Northumberland, one daughter and son-in-law Susan B. and Terry E. Sheaffer of Sunbury, granddaughter, Karen S. Poudrier and husband Brian D. Poudrier, Elon, NC, great-grandchildren Ryan and wife Rachel Poudrier of Burlington, NC. and Sarah Beth Poudrier of Elon, NC.
In addition to his wife of 67 years he was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Sechrist.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home 210 King Street, Northumberland with his Pastor Dilip Abayasekara officiating.
Interment with military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
