Helen Rowe, 96, of Northumberland, formerly of Sunbury, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, at WellSpan Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Helen was born Oct. 1, 1929 in Youngstown, Ohio, a daughter of the late Charles W. and Mary Louise (Zimmerman) Reed. On Jan. 14, 1949, she married Benjamin Rowe Jr. who preceded her in death.
She was a 1947 graduate of Sunbury High School. Following graduation, for 17 years, Helen was employed as a secretary for The Daily Item. Following her employment at the Daily Item, Helen served as the City Clerk for Sunbury. She then became an assistant to Senator Ed Helfnick and eventually an assistant to Congressman George Gekas.
Mrs. Rowe was an active life member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Sunbury, serving on many committees and as a member of the choir. Through the church, she also served as a Girl Scout Leader for many years.
She is survived by; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary L. and Robert R. Reed of Rimrock, Ariz.; granddaughter, Holly McCann and husband, Tyler; six great-grandchildren and sister, Peggy Bumgartner and husband, Don of Lewisburg.
In addition to her parents and husband, Helen was preceded in death by daughter, Charlotte J. Rowe; granddaughter, Jasmine Reed Dodson and her many brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026 at 11 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 356 Vine St., Sunbury, with Pastor Travis Allshouse officiating.
