Ethel L. (Wallace) Shirk, 92, of Northumberland, passed away Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at The Gardens for Memory Care in Easton, after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Ethel was born Jan. 7, 1932, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late George and Ethel Wallace. She was one of four siblings.
Ethel married Clinton M. Shirk in April of 1950. He preceded her in death December 2015. They were married for 65 years.
Ethel was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Sunbury. She graduated from the Sunbury High School in 1949. While in high school she enjoyed being a cheerleader for the Sunbury Owls football and basketball teams. She liked to spend her free time gardening and doing arts and crafts. She also liked to spend her summer weekends camping with her husband and son at Little Mexico Campground in Winfield. In later years Ethel and her husband Clinton liked to go to the El Rancho restaurant for breakfast. They also would meet her brother Skip and his wife Linda for dinner at Hoss’s on Saturday nights.
Ethel is survived by her son, Rex Shirk of Northumberland; her grandson, James Brosious of Selinsgrove; her granddaughter, Jayme (Brosious) Wagner of Northumberland; her brother and sister-in-law, George (Skip) and Linda Wallace of Northumberland; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Ethel was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton M Shirk; her parents, George and Ethel Wallace; her brother, Richard Wallace; and her sister, Kay (Wallace) Clark.
Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury. Services will begin at 1 p.m. and will be provided by Chaplin Christine Johnson.
