Esther M. Furman, 84, of Heidi Drive, passed away on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Esther was born January 26, 1940, in Scranton a daughter of the late Bernard and Helen (Everett) Teske.  She married Franklin W. Furman in September of 1961, and he preceded her in death on May 3, 1995.

Following graduation, she later earned her RN degree at the Geisinger School of Nursing. 

Mrs. Furman was a pediatric nurse at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.  She eventually left her employment to raise her children.  She then taught health and was the school nurse at Northumberland Christian School for many years. Esther was also the primary caregiver to her husband for 17 years as he dealt with cancer.

Mrs. Furman was a faithful member of the First Regular Baptist Church of Northumberland and immensely enjoyed Bible studies with her church friends.

She served on the Board of the Ronald McDonald House and was a volunteer for many years.

Esther enjoyed crocheting, especially blankets, for her family and friends. She also enjoyed eating out with her friends.  Her greatest joy came from time spent with family.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Frank and Jody Furman, David and Patty Furman, her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Tom Ross, her seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and nephew, Tom Gray, to whom she was a second mom. 

In addition to her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her sister, Anne Gray, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.

A private graveside service will be conducted in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
