Doris Baker Obituary

Sunbury- Doris Baker,  89, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

She was born October 30, 1929 in Sunbury a daughter of the late William and Helen (Glessner) Martz.  Doris  was married for over 60 years to the late Marks C. “Max” Baker

She was a 1947 graduate of Sunbury High School and attended Susquehanna University. 

Doris was a lifelong member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Sunbury. She was very active with the church, she taught Sunday School, helped with Bible School, served on the administrative board, planned mother and daughter banquets and was a member of the apple-dumpling gang.  She loved her church family.

She was also a member of the Sunbury Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and served as an officer for many years.  She was also a member of the Shikellamy band parents.

Doris worked for Sunbury Community Hospital as a billing clerk, she worked in the office of Smith-Campbell dealership and also worked as a hostess for the Edison Hotel.

Her family always called her “Behr” because she was like a mother bear protecting her cubs. Her family was her purpose in life.

She is survived by her son Jeff Baker and his fiancée Amy Blasko of Emmaus, Daughter and Son-In-Law LeeAnn and Steve Ritchie of Sunbury, granddaughters Julie Ritchie Wagner and her husband Greg Wagner of Manassas, VA, Jayme Ritchie and her husband Kile Simpson of North Stonington, C , Great-Grandchildren Katelyn and Thomas Wager of Manasses, VA, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a sister June Martz in infancy.

Friends and family may visit Friday 9:00am – 10:00am at the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut Street, Sunbury where the funeral service will follow at 10:00 am.

Interment will follow in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
