Coal Township - Dennis W. Smith, 76, of Independence Street, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born April 19, 1949, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Earl and Gladys (Zettlemoyer) Smith.  He was married to Carol Smith who preceded him in death in 2011.  

Dennis was a graduate of Warrior Run High School.  He was employed by Lewisburg Area School District for over 30 years and had also been a van driver for the Daily Item.  

He was a member of the Friendship Hose Company in Sunbury.

Dennis enjoyed racing, the Keystoners Drum Bugle Corp., and working around the house.

He is survived by his companion Janet Stasney, stepdaughter Angela Klinger (Chad), Stepsons Jeff and Bill Burkhart, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, one brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Michele Smith, and his cousin Sandra Hughes.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his brothers Merle and Ronald and his aunt and uncle Merle and 

Cleota Bachman.  

A viewing will be held Friday, March 6, from 10-11am at the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State Street, Sunbury, where the funeral service will be held at 11:00am.

Interment will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
