David W. Hollabaugh Sr., 75, of 223 S. Second St., Sunbury, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2024, while receiving care at Watsontown Rehabilitation and Nursing Center.
David was born Dec. 16, 1948, in Danville, a son of the late William P. and Catherine (Spickard) Hollabaugh. He was married to Christine M. (Kuczynski) Hollabaugh of Beaver Valley, Pa., later married to Brenda (Anderson) Hollabaugh of Arkansas who preceded him in death.
He attended Danville High School, and has a long genealogy dating back many generations in Montoursville County.
He proudly served during the Vietnam War with the US Marine Corp. until his discharge in 1969 after injury in combat that awarded him a recipient of the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
David was a truck driver for most of his career. He was gainfully employed by Lawton Trucking, D. B. Whitebread & Sons, inc., and of S & L Warehouse in Milton until his retirement.
He is survived by his sons, Kevin Guffey of Danville, David W. Hollabaugh Jr. and his spouse Matthew W. Strauser of Sunbury and Charles C. Hollabaugh of Northumberland; grandson, Sebastian Hollabaugh and his wife Sunshine; great-grandchild, Emmett Hollabaugh; stepdaughter, Kim Mullin; brothers, Jeff Hollabaugh and Terry Hollabaugh; and sisters, Donna Warren, Deb Focht and Clara Beitz.
He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Daniel L. Hollabaugh in 2009; brothers, William "Bill" of Judsonia, Arkansas, and Paul Hollabaugh of Sunbury; and sister, Brenda Hollabaugh of Danville.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews Episcopal Church, 32 N. Front St., Sunbury, with Rev. Dina Carter-Ishler officiating. A private viewing for immediate family will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to service.
Burial with military honors will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville. The family is encouraging graveside attendance to honor David’s service in the United States Marine Corps.
Arrangements are by the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury.
Flower arrangements have been made with Scott’s Florist in Danville. A reception will follow graveside service and be announced at that time.
