Charles R. Young, 87, of Salem Manor, Selinsgrove, passed away Friday, Aug. 9, in Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
Charles was born Sept. 10, 1936, in Danville, a son of the late Strickler and Edith (Smith) Young. On Nov. 29, 1954, he married Shirley Erdman who preceded him in death in January of 2022, breaking a 67-year marital union.
He was a 1956 graduate of Coal Township High School.
Charles was employed by R.U. Troutman and Sons, Sunbury for 56 years. He was a member of the Penn State Club, New Berlin, and the Susquehanna Valley Kennel Club.
Charles was an avid Penn State fan and a faithful ticket holder for 40 years, he was also a Phillies fan and enjoyed camping, however, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He is survived by his sons Charles Young Jr. (Deb), George Young (Lisa); daughters Diane Brown, Kay Fenstermacher (Jim); 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one sister, Joanne Hoch (Bill).
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by son-in-law Scott Brown and grandson Jason Brown.
A viewing will be held Friday, Aug. 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, where the funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. In honor of Charles’ devotion to Penn State, guests attending the viewing and service are encouraged to wear Penn State attire or dress in blue and white.
Interment will be private in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
