Carey Hoffman was born January 1, 1951, the son of Franklin and Romayne (Gresh) Hoffman. He was a 1969 graduate of Shikellamy High School. He began working at Butterkrust Baking Company in 1968 and spent 44 years there, until his retirement in 2013. On April 20, 1974, Carey married Gale (Berger) Hoffman. Together they celebrated 51 years of marriage.
He was an active member of United Lutheran Church, Sunbury where he sang in the Senior Choir, played in the Bell Choir, and played the organ. Carey was an avid collector of Lionel Trains. He belonged to the Loose Ties Train club, as well as the LCCA. He was very passionate about the mission of Operation Lifesaver, and often volunteered at their events. He enjoyed music, camping and spending time in his big, beautiful garden. Carey's quiet acts of kindness and generosity touched the lives of countless people, leaving a legacy of selfless service.
In addition to his wife, Carey is survived by two sons; Christopher (Mandi) Hoffman and Jeremy (Becky) Hoffman and one daughter, Anita (Steve) Williams. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Brandon and Taylor Williams and Noah and Lily Hoffman and a brother, Frank (Judy) Hoffman.
He was proceeded in death by his parents as well as his mother and father-in-law, Doris and Earl Berger.
Services will be held at the United Lutheran Church of Sunbury, 167 Seven Points Road, Sunbury, PA on Tuesday, May 20. Visitation will be held from 11am-1pm. The service will follow immediately at 1pm with Pastor Andrew Weaver officiating. Arrangements have been made by the Blank Funeral Home, 395 State Street, Sunbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Music fund at United Lutheran Church, Sunbury.
