Brittany Derck-Jones Obituary

SCHMIDMUHLEN, Germany — Brittany Ruth Derck-Jones, 27, passed away on Friday, Nov. 14, 2014, at her home in Germany.
Brittany was born March 24, 1987, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., the loving and beautiful daughter of Evelyn (Derck) Abromitis, the late David Derck, and stepfather, John Abromitis. She was married to Sergeant Brandon Jones who survives.
A 2005 graduate of Shikellamy High School, Brittany served as a football and basketball cheerleader, and assistant historian and year book staff. She was a member of the Spanish and Art Club and was also involved in competitive gymnastics. Brittany graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor of arts degree in English and a minor in media studies in 2009. She received her master of human relations from the University of Oklahoma in August of 2014.
Brittany was employed by Hohenfels Education Center, Germany as an education counselor/onsite coordinator. She worked as a freelance writer writing as a regular contributor for the modern interior design blog Furniture Fashion and also worked at The Children’s Home Jefferson County, New York as a Foster Care/B2H caseworker.
Brittany enjoyed traveling and traveled to Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Jamaica and her favorite place Iceland. She enjoyed photography, antiquing, repurposing furniture and decor, writing, reading, music, sewing and her blog that she created called therococoroamer to keep family and friends updated on her travels and events. She also enjoyed her pride and joy, her french bulldog, Louis which was her baby.
For those who had the privilege of knowing Brittany they will remember her smile, loving heart and honesty. Her husband, mother, brother, stepfather, stepsibling, aunts, uncles and grandparents were blessed to love her and their lives will be diminished with her passing. Knowing her and loving her was an honor. “Yesterday you said tomorrow”
In addition to her husband, mother and stepfather, she is survived by one brother, Zachary Derck; stepsister, Tamara Abromitis; stepbrother, John Abromitis II; maternal grandparents, Robert and Ruth Bresko; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Derck.
Friends and family may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland where the funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Richard H. Earl officiating.
Interment will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
Because Brittany was an avid reader, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a library or a charity of the donors choice.
