Aaron I. Whyne, 103, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following a brief illness.
Aaron was born January 16, 1921, in Mt. Carmel, the son of the late Aaron F. Whyne and Elsie Mae (Shearer) Whyne.
He was a graduate of the class of 1939 from Mt. Carmel High School. On July 11, 1942, he married Marie M. Anuzis, who preceded him in death.
Aaron served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in New Mexico, from Jan 1941 to Jun 1941.
He was drafted into the Army from September 1942 and honorably discharged in December 1945 at the end of World War II. He served as a staff sergeant of the Supply Unit in the Combat Engineers.)
After returning home, he worked several jobs and ultimately joined Merck in 1951 at Riverside as a chemical operator until retiring in 1987, after 36 years.
Aaron is survived by his children Ann M. Shilo, Mary E. Snyder (Steve, "Tex"), Conrad F. Whyne (Dianne), grandchildren Donald and Kathy Kirkpatrick, Matthew and Tyffanie Kirkpatrick, Jennifer and Scott Duncan, Melissa Shilo, Stephen Jr. and Christopher Snyder, four great grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he was preceded in death by one daughter Jeanne M. Kirkpatrick and grandson Mark Kirkpatrick.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and loved the outdoors, where he spent many years of his life.
Aaron was a member of the Northumberland American Legion Post #44 and the Norry Gun Club.
He was a resident of Point Township since 1951, living in the same house for 73 years.
A viewing will be held Thursday, October 10, from 6-8pm at the Zweier Funeral Home, 157 Chestnut Street, Sunbury, where the funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00am with Father Jerome Kleponis officiating.
