Northumberland - Peter J. Gallo, 91 passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at the Evangelical Community Hospital. He was born November 27, 1927 in Northumberland a son the late Angelo and Luigia (Longardzo) Gallo. On January 2, 1954 he married the love of his life, the former Naomi Rowe. When courting her, he would walk to Sunbury with his guitar and sing to her.
Pete was a lifelong resident of Northumberland and attended Norry Schools. During his high school years he was a great football and basketball player. He was a proud Pineknotter. Graduating in 1946, Pete still attended the monthly luncheons with his classmates. During his teen years, prior to enlisting in the Navy he worked on the railroad track crew. He proudly served in the Navy from 1949 until 1953 aboard the USS Chemory during the Korean War in Oppama, Japan. After serving his country he bagan working at the Keystone Forge. He would then work for AMP for 35 years, retiring in 1990. Pete then worked parttime for Furman Foods as a runner until he was 80. He was a member of St. Thomas More Church until its closing and he then attended St. Monica Catholic Church until his passing. He also attended the Crossroads and Christ Wesleyan Churches both of Milton with his wife for the last few years. He loved Jesus and surely he was welcomed into the Gates of Heaven. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post #44, Northumberland. Mr. Gallo is best known for being able to repair anything. He was very out going and
loved everyone. He always hasd a hug and a kiss for anyone and loved to dance with his family. Earlier in life he coached his boys sports teams. Musically he could play anything by ear and sang his entire life. He was happiest playing the organ, singing or playing the guitar with his son Phil. He enjoyed working in his shop, fixing things for people or making things on his lathe. He was a wonderful carpentar and helped remodel both of his sons homes.
Pete had a nice long life, enjoyed living and will be missed by many, including, his wife of 65 years, two sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Becky Gallo of Nichols, NY, Pete and Pat Gallo of Northumberland, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, four sisters, Betsy Bucher, Rosie Schrader, Christine and Mary Gallo and manyniecesandnephews.
He was preceded in dedath by three brothers, Orlando, Vito andAngelo.
Friends and family may call from 10:30am to 11:30 am Wednesday at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King Street, Northumberland where funeral services will begin at 11:30am with Father Fred Wangwe AJ officiating.
Burial with military honors accorded by the American Legion Post #44 will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
