Nancy J. Walker, 90, of Prince Street, Northumberland, passed away Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
Nancy was born March 16, 1928, in Spring Township, Beaver Springs, in Snyder County. There she grew up on a farm and spent many hours watching cows and making mud pies on her beloved red bridge. She was the daughter of the late Frank R. and Edna V. (Bell) Klinepeter. On Nov. 14, 1964, she married Thomas C. Walker who preceded in death on Feb. 8, 2007.
She was a 1946 graduate of Beaver Vocational High School.
She was employed at J.P.M., Lewisburg, owned and operated her own hair salon in Sunbury and lastly at Bon-Ton Department Store at the Susquehanna Valley Mall.
Nancy was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Northumberland and served as secretary of Lutheran Church Women. She was a member of both the Sunbury and Mifflinburg Bowling Association and member of the Red Hats Society. She served as secretary of the Hairdressers Association and was a member of the Board of Directors of Friends of Shikellamy State Park.
Nancy was a lover of dogs all of her life. For years she could be seen walking her Sussy, later Pee Wee, her little Jack Russell and also her granddog, Murphy and great-granddog, Harley.
Nancy is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Dixie Lee and Bill Wagner, of Sunbury; two grandsons, Matthew Wagner and wife Jennifer, of Paxinos and Jason Wagner and companion Tracie Lesher, of Sunbury; her brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Grace Klinepeter, of Beaver Springs; sister and brother-in-law, Edna G. “Dolly” and Cass Smerroskie, of Shamokin; three generations of nieces and nephews, and many great friends and neighbors, such as Frank and Chris Nanna, of Versailles and recent caregivers, Libby Green, Sam and Mary Griffith, Janine Bettbarn, of Northumberland and longtime friends, Thelma and James Byerly, of West Milton and Cindy and Gene Cardennis, of Northumberland.
In addition to her parents and husband of 42 years she was preceded in death by three brothers, Clark, Lewis and Samuel Klinepeter; her sister, Annabelle (Klinepeter) Heeter; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Art and Loretta Pursel; former husband, Harold E. Gelnett; and stepson, Richard E. Gelnett.
Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 300 Queen St., Northumberland, where a memorial service will begin at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Northumberland.
