Sunbury - Carol Elizabeth Rehrauer died on April 12, 2024, in the care of her daughter and at the side of her husband.
She was predeceased by her parents, William and Elsie (Stuhring) Meyer and her bother Kenneth H.
She was born on December 12, 1940, in Englewood, New Jersey, and grew up in neighboring Ridgefield. She was baptized at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Palisades Park, where she was acquainted with her future husband, Reverend Edwin Kenneth Rehrauer.
She attended The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and received a bachelor's degree at a time when a 4 year degree was virtually unheard of, let alone from an Ivy League institution. Even before working in many University affiliated hospitals in major cities, she showed her leadership skills when a professor was late to class but in the building. Carol led her classmates down the fire escape, instead of the building's stairs, to avoid catching the attention of the professor and having class.
On August 7, 1965, she married Edwin and their marriage lasted 58 years, until her death, despite the odds given at the reception. After his ordination, they lived in many wonderful cities with many adventures until moving to Danville from Brooklyn, NY, recovering from culture shock, enjoying the beautiful Susquehanna Valley and staying in Pennsylvania for the rest of her days. After a move to Bensalem, she and Edwin retired to the Upper Augusta Township where they enjoyed day trips, books, the quiet and the birth of a granddaughter. She was active in parish life at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church including Church Council, Worship and Music Committee and the adult choir. One of her favorite hymns was When Peace Like A River Flows.
She is survived by her beloved husband Edwin, her daughter Kristin Marie, in whom she delighted, and her treasured granddaughter Grace Elizabeth. She is also survived by a small number of family members but a larger circle of friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Resurrection Lutheran Church (94 Warren Street, Roxbury (Boston) MA 02119), Saint Augustine's House (a Lutheran Monastery, 3316 Drahner Rd. Oxford MI 48370) or Lutheran For Life (1101 5th Street, Nevada, IA 50201).
